May 24, 2000Jackson was attacked by Darryl “Hommo”
Baum, outside his grandmother’s former home in south Jamaica (the table dance
of Uncle Joe), Queens. He went to a friend’s car, but returned to the House to
get some jewelry. His son was in the house while his grandmother was in the
front yard. Upon Returning to the back seat of the car, another car pulled up
nearby. A robber approached the left of Jackson with a 9 mm handgun and fired
nine shots at close range. He was shot nine times: in the hand (a bullet hit
his right thumb and left his little finger), arm, hip, both legs, chest, and
left cheek. The face wound resulted in a swollen tongue, the loss of a tooth,
and a small stain in his voice that made it worse. His friend also sustained a
gunshot wound to the hand. Baum, the alleged shooter, was killed three weeks
later. Baum was also Mike Tyson’s friend and bodyguard Jackson recalled the
incident saying, “It happens so fast you do not even have a chance to shoot
back…I was scared the whole time… I was looking in the rearview mirror, “Oh
shit, somebody shot me in the face!
